With PetaSite Select Systems

For corporate customers who need a turnkey tape storage system, Sony Electronics has introduced its PetaSite Select Systems, a comprehensive series of tape library storage systems that is delivered to customers pre-tested and pre-configured with hardware and software to meet their specific hierarchical storage management (HSM) needs.

The PetaSite Select Systems entail less on-site installation time, while providing IT administrators with an automated means to manage data in tiered storage architectures. The new PetaSite Select Systems come pre-assembled with high-speed and high-capacity Digital Tape Format™ (DTF) drives, Sony PetaServe® HSM software, and feature optional expansion consoles to accommodate storage growth and multiple media formats. With Sony’s PetaServe HSM software, IT managers can set data-specific parameters and the system will automatically and transparently move files between the server and the PetaSite System, managing the network’s complete storage hierarchy (on-line, near- on-line, and archival).

The new PetaSite Select Systems series is equipped with interfaces for both SCSI and Fibre Channel, and Sony’s System Integration Center is capable of customizing systems with capacity of up to 11 Petabytes. The systems are designed for use in SAN, NAS, rapidly changing HSM environments, disaster recovery, or as the core architecture for broadcast-based content storage management.

The systems are available in three standard configurations:

DMS-B80L PetaSite Select System: The DMS-B80 SNTE/P PetaSite tape library is designed for lower midrange storage capacity needs. It is targeted for those requiring high storage density, high throughput and fast file access in a compact footprint.

DMS-B150L PetaSite Select System: The DMS-B150 SNTE/P PetaSite tape library is tailored to customers who use multiple media formats and have fast-growing data storage needs. In addition to its space-saving design, fast file access, high density, and dual network interface options, the DMS-B150L delivers a wealth of expansion potential with optional DMS-EX150L extension consoles.

DMS-8400 PetaSite Select System: The DMS-8 SNTE/P library, the third member of the PetaSite Select series, is optimized for large-scale archive and network support requirements. The library’s core system design enables it to expand to suit sizeable amounts of archived files.
